The place was hostel no. 7, chandigarh. I was sitting with a couple of friends. And ya, I forgot to mention that its going to be my b'day in another 5 hours. So we were basically making plans for the same. And beleive me, the things never go the way u plan them..for me atleast..!! and this time it was for good. I cant even remember how much plans we made and how many times we changed them. Then one of them suggested that i should spend the night in their hostel. Well sounded good to me coz i hdnt ever been with my friends at 12 in the nite on my b'day. So i called up my parents at home telling i would be staying over here at nite, and they agreed without any question( haha my parents know its my day to enjoy)

After doing that, the next question was what are we gonna do at nite?? Cutting the cake was definitely going to happen but when and where? and wht before and after?? After many chit-chat we decided to go for a dinner and we'll see the rest afterwards (thats how things are done here!!)

2 hours to go

We (me and 4 other buddies) finally reached a location near the famous lake of chandigarh. It was a typical january night - chilly but thankfully not foggy. The cold wind producing a cold sensation everytime it touched your face. And one thing thats popular about this place is that people usually go there for drinking(haha thats why i've kept it undisclosed) And its a usual hang out place for younsters seeking haven from their daily life or celebrating end of exams or somebody's b'day. But beleive me, the food there is also awesome. After arriving there, we saw tht the place was jampacked. So we waited for 10 minutes and then ordered the food. I dont know whom it struck that it would be good to share a drink since it was my b'day after all! Now its important to say that none of my friends is a regular or habitual drinker. We ordered a bottle of ' Magical Moments' ( funny i remember the name too..!!) my frnds said that i should just try it too.  I looked at the bottle with a pic of hrithik roshan on it. Now being his fan, how possibly could i say no to him?? Under duress from my friends, i also ( for the first time in my life) decided to take a shot. But i was a bit worried that i would be seeing a single person as a double one ( like they show in movies!! haha). But mine was a pretty small one. After one shot, i waited for something to happen. But nothing happened..!! i was still the same as i was before.. i thought what the hell..!! nothings happening..!! i thought about that RDB song ,"talli hoke girne se samjhi humne gravity!!" i said undauntingly," gimme another one..!!" and people were surprised to hear that. And then gulped down the second one. but still nothing happened..!!

i thought its better to stop now as i might be imagining some 'magical moments' afterwards (haha..!!) and i had to drive too. So at about 11:15 we were outside this place and then suddenly the atmosphere blazed with the sound of a popular punjabi number (i dnt remember which one..) We saw a bunch of dudes dancing on the road at the sound coming from the car's stereo system.

now who would mind dancing a little in the middle of the road on a chilly night? so we joined them at once. My frnds told them tht it was my b'day today. so they wished me and one of them even hugged me..!!(emotions run high at such places!) He took my number and promised that he'll call me tomorrow. i thought he'll probably not even remember that he ever met me..haha..!! so after 10 minutes, when we realised that we had more pressing issues ( there were only 35 minutes left and no idea whr my cake was..!!) we took our leave. 

I realised that i was out of cash ( since it was an unexpected plan and i wsnt carrying much with me) so my frnds told to head back to hostel to get their ATM's (its amazing how ppl have become dependent on a small card for their financial needs..!!) and they were kind of worried that it was my first drink so whether i'll be able to drive or not? i assured them i am alright. So we began our journey back.

we were still in that lake area(which is surrounded by a forest like area) and were going at a good speed when suddenly i saw something. That thing looked like a deer but was about 4 feet high and had horns like some animals that come on Discovery Channel. I thought i was imagining things. was that the effect of 'magical moments'?(haha..!!) but i looked okay to myself.  and then i was relieved to hear that thing was usually spotted in this area. thank god..!!and then we were back to our usual taling and laughing. only i knw what those moments meant to me..

10 minutes to go

we finally landed up at Cafe Coffee Day in sec 35. but they had no cake available as such ( guess they didnt expected many people to show up at midnite and ask for cake) the only one they had was one which they had cut into 8 pasteries ( thank God it was chocolate!!). there wasnt enough time to right my name on it coz i was determined to cut the cake at 12. 

finally it was midnite. i had just turned 20.  so now it was time to cut the cake. but that was however delayed coz my cell began to ring with calls and messages. first one was from mom n dad. then 3  from classmates. and finally at 12:10 i cut the cake. since it was very cold and chily i was spared from getting the cake rubbed on my face (lucky me!)

we reached back to hostel at about 1 in the morning(with calls coming from friends and family) and then another wierd idea was given that we should watch a movie together on PC. but it was an old movie flick made in 1970's ( not at all my choice..!!) while watching the movie i was drifted away into thoughts about wht wud i do tmrw? and before i knew, i fell asleep. i was jolted back to reality by some strange noises. there was some weird song going on in the movie. i looked around to kick somebody for keeping the volume so high but all were asleep (haha) i simply unplugged the PC ( who cares for shutting it down?) and went back to sleep. At about 3 in the morning i thought i was hearing something.  when i was again awake i remembered it sounded like my cellphone ringtone. it flashed an ISD number. surely i was dreaming or it was another 'magical moment'!! haha!! but tht turned out to be classmate from sydney..i was glad to hear from him after a long tym..

the next day was a usual one with calls and messages from friends..a frnd whom i had been expecting to message, called instead..that was the biggest surprise of the day..but i wud remember these few hours for a long tym..!!
